CSLB classification

A CSLB classification is the letter, or letter and number, on a California contractor license that says which branch or trade of contracting it covers. A is general engineering, B is general building and B-2 is residential remodeling. C is specialty contracting, split into numbered trades such as C-10, electrical. C-61, limited specialty, is split further into D subcategories, such as D-3, awnings.

The A, B and B-2 classes are defined in the Business and Professions Code and the numbered C classes in CSLB's regulations. The Contractors State License Board publishes the full list at cslb.ca.gov, each class linked to its definition, and one license can hold more than one class. The contractor renewals file on this site lists a license's classes in its classifications column, written without the hyphen, so C-10 appears as C10.
